The 4th Biennial International Conference of Korean Society for Early Childhood Education (KSECE)
In Collaboration with World OMEP

Transcending Modernity
in Early Education and Care

October 20 – 22, 2006
Seoul, Korea
www.ksece.or.kr

We invite scholars in the early childhood education (including graduate students and teachers) from all around the country to submit proposals for symposia, papers, posters, and virtual presentations. The issues of transcending modernity in early childhood education and care challenge the assumptions and beliefs of modernity, which are characterized by objectivity, universality, certainty, and scientific knowledge. This discourse requires predetermined and standardized outcomes and prohibits diverse ways of thinking on early childhood education and care. However, there are other discourses on early childhood education and care from diverse pedagogical theories and practices. They challenge us to welcome complexity, diversity, and otherness. The themes of the conference include provoking issues such as diversity, culture, and publicity in early childhood settings.

We will have outstanding invited speakers, including Dr. Selma Simonstein, president of World OMEP, speaking visions of World OMEP, Dr. Gunilla Dahlburg at the Stockholm Institute of Education, Sweden, speaking on the topic of politics and ethics in school settings, Dr. Daniel J. Walsh at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign , USA, speaking on the topic of culture in early schooling, Dr. HaeRyung Yeu at YeungNam University, Korea, speaking on the topic of beyond postmodernism in Korean settings, and many other international scholars related conference issue .
